Founded in 1951 by Ralph Barrus after graduating from the School of Piano Technology at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Barrus Pianos has grown into one of Utah’s most trusted names in piano services. Ralph built the business by establishing his expertise in piano tuning, repair, and rebuilding. He was recognized as one of the premier piano technicians in the Western U.S. and expanded to piano sales and rentals in the early 1960s with the import of Yamaha pianos.
After seeing the need for quality piano movers, Ralph’s son, John, started the moving side of Barrus Pianos in 1978 and helped shape the company into what it is today. What started as a small operation to deliver the pianos sold by Barrus Pianos has now turned into multiple full-time crews that are trusted by private customers, artists, and many of the Piano Dealerships in the Salt Lake Valley to deliver the pianos they sell; including brands such as Steinway & Sons, Fazioli, and Kawai.
